Get the goods on Good Foods Grocery in our continuing series profiling deals and programs at local stores. And find out where you can score veggies, Gatorade, pizza, and deodorant FOR FREE!
Like the store from last week’s savings profile, Good Foods Grocery is a locally-owned natural foods retailer, opened in 1985 and with two Richmond locations.
I had the opportunity to get the Good Foods scoop from president/owner Donnie Caffery. He was quick to caution me that Good Foods’s primary mission is fostering good nutrition and healthy lifestyles, and as such, doesn’t seek to attract “bargain” grocery shoppers with rock-bottom prices.
But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer good deals to frugal natural food shoppers.
Monthly Sales – Denoted by yellow shelf tags. Like Ellwood Thompson’s, Good Foods sale schedule is monthly. Check the Monthly Sales Flyer online to see some of the January offerings, with many more available in store. For example, this month 32oz Rice Dream ricemilk is $2.69, and Applegate Farms natural chicken pot pies are $2.99.
“Bullet” Sales – Look for the green tags. These are super-low prices on limited quantities, on sale ’til they run out. Bullet sales are unadvertised and don’t follow any schedule; visiting the store is the only way to find out about them.
Coupons – Good Foods doesn’t double them, but it does accept manufacturer’s coupons
Case Discounts – Save ten to fifteen percent on orders by the case
Bulk Buys – Mr. Caffery’s voice lit up when discussing the wonderful possibilities afforded by all the “naked” food arrayed in the bulk bins. Items like rolled oats and granola are a bargain over buying pre-packaged.
Every Day Values – Like $5.99 gallons of Murray’s Apple Juice, an all natural, cloudy juice made in Roanoke.
Advantage Card Rewards – A unique twist on loyalty card use, shoppers with a Good Foods Grocery Advantage Card accumulate 1 point for every dollar spent. Points can be redeemed for a number of reward options, including discounts at neighboring retailers, free supplements, or Good Foods gift certificates.
