Special K for $1, cheap prices on toothpaste, meat you can get for a steal. Check out this week’s top picks for deals around town.
I’m basking in fall’s official arrival yesterday, anticipating the crisp air, rainbow leaves, crunchy apples, and warm, hearty meals. With the season shift, expect to see a corresponding change in grocery sales: more promotions focused on cool weather favorites like soup, squash, and baking products, and fewer on summer staples like condiments, chips and corn.
And plenty of apple sales to come. Much as I love them, I expect to be very sick of writing about apples before the season is over.
The Nestle/Kraft “$5 off 10 items” sale at Kroger continues through this Saturday.
Meat Top Pick
There are a lot of good meat prices at grocery stores this week, so take a look at the sales circulars. I’ll go with USDA Choice boneless sirloin steak for $3.98/lb at Ukrop’s.
Veggie Top Pick
At Ukrop’s, save 50% this week on all Dole bagged salads.
Fruit Top Pick
Ukrop’s also offers $.99/lb red, green, or black seedless grapes.
Dairy Top Pick
Breyers yogurt is half-price at Kroger – $.39 a cup – although the selection at my store was slim: Strawberry or light strawberry! Alternatively, Kroger yogurt is $.33.
Staples Top Pick
$1 Special K cereal at Ukrop’s? If I’m interpreting the fine print correctly, Special K is on sale for $2, and you’ll save an additional $5 when you buy 5 boxes. (Save even more if you happen to pick up the “$1 off 2 Kellogg’s Cereal” manufacturer’s coupon that I’ve seen in coupon dispensers in the Kroger cereal aisle.) Certain varieties of General Mills are $1.77 at Kroger, and you can load Shortcuts eCoupons for Honey Nut Cheerios, Trix, etc.
Snacks & Sweets Top Pick
Stock a freezer with Lean Cuisine or Stouffer’s entrees from Kroger for $1.49 each, after Nestle/Kraft 10 item discount.
Beverages Top Pick
Take your pick from several brands of coffee on sale at Kroger (All including the extra savings from buying 10 participating Nestle/Kraft items): Seattle’s Best $4.99, Maxwell House $4.99, and Starbucks $5.99. Plus, get Melita coffee filters for $1 this week.
Household Top Pick
Basic Colgate toothbrushes and toothpaste are $.94 at Kroger.
