RPS open enrollment begins January 20th

Hoping to send your kids to an out-of-zone school? Better get on it!

Richmond Public School’s open enrollment period begins on Tuesday, January 20th. During this period, Richmond City parents who wish to send their children to an out-of-zone school can complete an application to participate in a lottery for open spots. Applications are due by 4:30 PM on Friday, February 13th.

From the RPS press release:

“Students who submit an application through the Open Enrollment process are placed in a lottery for each grade level at each chosen school. The lottery determines the order in which available slots will be filled. Key factors that determine lottery placement include how many out-of-zone spaces a school has, as well as the number of lottery applicants. The lottery drawing for secondary students will be held Monday, March 9, while the drawing for elementary students will take place Monday, March 16. The time and location for both drawings will be announced at a later date.”

RPS will host two informational sessions to assist parents with the open enrollment process this week:

  • Wednesday, January 14th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM • Lucille Brown Middle School (6300 Jahnke Road)
  • Thursday, January 15th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM • Thomas Jefferson High School (4100 W. Grace Street)

Online applications for open enrollment will be available on the RPS website at the start of the application period. You can also pick them up at any Richmond City school or at Office of Pupil Personnel Services (301 N. 9th Street, 13th floor). All mailed applications must be postmarked by February 13th.
