This train is actually a regular freight train. But it is good to see coal continuing to move on along these tracks from Central Appalachia to power generation plants, providing homes and businesses with an affordable fuel source.

According to Virginia campaign finance reports, the Terry McAuliffe Inaugural Committee received $25,000 from the coal company Alpha Natural Resources and $50,000 from the Virginia-based Dominion Resources, which deals in coal, natural gas and nuclear power.

Based on the angle of the picture, the photographer was standing on the empty rail line i.e. trespassing. I assume the photographer doenst mind CSX Transportation sending over some employees to his house so they can trespass and tack pictures?

  5. How about some kudos for the photographer?? This is a great picture. The lighting that is captured along with the fine details make it incredible. And Brian, it’s highly like that this was taken with a professional level camera and therefore, he probably was not standing right next to the train. A good zoom lens makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks for sharing this with us, JOzPhotography!

In addition to killing lots of birds, the Ivanpah solar plant electricity costs are astronomical compared to coal and other fossil fuel energy sources. The article (link below) also notes how the Dept of Energy loaned Google and NRG Energy $1.6 billion. Is Google short on cash? More like the government is picking winner and losers. And in this case a loser. Not sure how the Greens can justify solar power.

Consider the overall costs of the fossil fuels. Seen this reported in the local news lately?

    http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/2/11/coal-slurry-spillworrieskanawhacounty.html

A large amount of coal slurry — a watery mix of coal dust, rock and chemicals, including the chemical crude MCHM — spilled from a preparation plant into a tributary of the Kanawha River in Charleston, W.Va., on Tuesday. Local officials said the impact of the spill is “significant.”

Local officials estimated it to be more than 100,000 gallons, according to the West Virginia Gazette. That is 10 times the volume of an MCHM spill that tainted water for hundreds of thousands in the area last month.
