Pasture heads to Charlottesville, UR opens a restaurant, and more pizza in Carytown?

There’s a lot of coming and going in the local restaurant scene, with one restaurant expanding beyond the city limits, another trying to take over the space of a fledgling record store, and the University of Richmond getting collegial in the kitchen.

On September 10th, the University of Richmond will open a restaurant downtown at 626 E. Broad Street inside the UR Downtown building. The restaurant will focus on breakfast and lunch, Monday – Friday from 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Chef Matthew Lee, former executive chef of the Altria Group, is in charge of a menu that will focus on local and seasonal options. The restaurant is part of UR’s ongoing effort to be involved in the revitalization of the downtown area. Check the menus out here.

Mellow Mushroom might be coming to Carytown. The Atlanta-based pizza chain applied for an on-premise wine and beer license at 3012 W. Cary Street, the current location of Plan 9 Music. Apparently, the record store has been up for lease for a while and they’re looking to downsize. You can take a look at the Mellow Mushroom menu in case you want to plan a visit. We’ll keep you posted.

If you don’t have plans to visit a body of water to celebrate Labor Day this weekend, The Tobacco Company has a Sunday night plan for you. Starting at 8:00 PM, The Trongone Band will be playing tunes and there will be summer cocktail specials along with $2 burgers. Tobacco Co. promises those drinks will be served in mason jars–nothing says “I have Monday off” like a cocktail in a mason jar.
