New restaurants in December

More doughnuts, more beer…the only thing keeping this city from becoming a bunch of Homer Simpsons meandering down one-way streets is the punch-in-the-palate that is GWARbar. (To be clear, we have no problem with Homer Simpson.)

The Dog & Pig Show

December 10th

Dog And Pig Show Cafe reworked the spot at 314 N. 25th Street and brings “simple, but seriously good food” to the neighborhood. What’s unique about their menu is that they’re combining Southern, Louisiana Creole, and South Central Asia without it sounding crazy.

Duck Donuts

December 15th

Eagerly anticipated by its loyal OBX customers, Duck Donuts’ first Richmond location opened this morning at Willow Lawn. It hopes to attract even more fans with its “Warm, Delicious & Made to Order!” treats, facing off against other West End doughnut contenders including Krispy Kreme across the street, Westhampton Pastry Shop, Goin’ Bananas on Patterson, and the recently opened Sugar Shack location on Parham.

Brew Gastropub

December 18th

That sound you heard a few weeks ago coming from across the river was the contented sighs of thousands of Chesterfield County beer lovers. Brew Gastropub expands the county’s selection of craft beer establishments by a lot–30 taps, 60 bottles, cocktails, lunch and dinner, mind explosion.

Growlers to Go

December 20th

Charlie Diradour has won the “Fastest growler-fill-up concept to market” award this week, announcing the opening of Growlers to Go after just two short months of construction. The space, which will also include a drive-through Starbucks, is on the former Kangaroo gas station parcel on Boulevard near En Su Boca (also owned by Diradour). Inspired by Irvine California’s Growler Station, business owner Carter Reed will offer 55 beers on tap, to be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home from your own shiny vessel, as well as 150 beers in their no-less-enjoyable bottle form.

Urban Farmhouse Market & Café: Scott’s Addition

December 26th

The burgeoning Scott’s Addition neighborhood has a new dining option to start off 2015. The Urban Farmhouse Market & Café opened its fourth location over the holidays at 3015 Norfolk Street.

GWARbar

December 31st

GWARbar opened its doors on New Year’s Eve, after last-minute ABC approval, finally giving barbaric interstellar warriors and the bohabs that love them a place to grab gourmet junk food and “low-brow cocktails.” Rolling Stone seems skeptical, but we are not.
