New breastfeeding law goes into effect today
Congrats, nursing mothers of Virginia! You can now do that thing you probably already do anyway!

Women in Virginia are now allowed to breastfeed in public.
Most nursing moms I know were already doing this anyway, but now they’re legally protected from being hassled by people who get squeamish over the sight of breasts being…you know…breasts.
Back in February both houses of Virginia’s General Assembly unanimously passed legislation (SB1427 and HB1499) protecting a women’s right to breastfeed in public. Governor Terry McAuliffe signed these protections into law the following month.
As of today, July 1st, 2015, here in Virginia “…a mother may breastfeed in any place where the mother is lawfully present.”
So, nursing mothers, as you were. And feel free to wag this article at anyone giving you the side-eye as you feed those babies–as long as you aren’t trespassing or something while you’re doing it.
