Metro Grill is going through some changes, a new brunch in Jackson ward, and Kuba Kuba + Bacchus = ???

In this week’s food news we’ve got: news about two of the Fan’s favorite spots which joining forces, some answers to the rumors surrounding Metro Grill, a new brunch option in town, and a…PATIO ALERT!

If you’ve lived in Richmond for a while then you’ve most likely eaten at Kuba Kuba and Bacchus at some point. Kuba Kuba, known for its Cuban cuisine, and Bacchus, known for Italian dishes, are now teaming up for a restaurant venture on the Southside. Chef Manny Mendez of Kuba Kuba and Chris DiLauro of Bacchus have purchased the old Stratford Grill at 2805 Hathaway Road near the Stratford Hills shopping center. DiLauro lives a mile away from the new venture and wants to create a place in the neighborhood to grab a good meal or drink. The cuisine will not play to either their Cuban or Italian strengths, but will focus on staples like soups, sandwiches, steaks, seafood, and a great bar. They haven’t decided on a name, but will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner with brunch available on the weekends. Fingers crossed on a fall opening.

Over the past couple of months there have been a bunch of rumors swirling about Metro Grill being closed, that renovations were happening, or the restaurant had new ownership. Well Richmond.com has confirmed that Tony Hawkins, owner of The Republic, has purchased the familiar Robinson staple. Renovations began on May 1st which included a thorough cleaning, a few updates to the interior, and a refreshed menu. The Republic’s GM Jami Bohdan and Chef Augusto Lopez are overseeing the menu updates which will focus on New-American cuisine. Entrees will range from $15 to $22, with happy hour food and drink specials also in the works. The new Metro is set to open next Thursday, May 31st.

Mansion five26 is now open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-2pm. The restaurant attached to the Hippodrome in Jackson Ward is trying to meet the demand of customers who can’t make it to that area of town during the week. The brunch menu mirrors their dinner offerings with a mixture of southeastern fare, entree prices range from $10 to $16. It is clear that owner Ron Stallings has taken a lot of care in the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant, and there’s even a patio!

Speaking of…Patio Alert! According to this recent tweet from Lemaire it looks like there’s going to be an outdoor dining option soon . . .
