Metro Grill goes on the market, Lamplighter looks to caffeinate more of Richmond, Olio sprouts on East Broad, plus more of your weekly restaurant news
Not only is Metro Grill up for sale, but it’s being sold through…Craigslist?? One of Richmond’s beloved coffee dispensers eyes Summit Avenue and Church Hill, Buz and Ned’s starts to come alive in the West End, and October gets started with a hog-tastic hogfest.
The big restaurant news this week is that Metro Grill is up for sale. According to Richmond Bizsense, the restaurant was put up for sale on Monday through an ad on Craigslist. The popular fan night spot has been a Robinson Street staple for almost 14 years. Metro is owned by Bob Cox who owns neighboring restaurant, Curbside, along with the Conch Republic.
When one restaurant closes, another will open orrr something like that, right? Lamplighter, the popular coffee shop on Addison and Cary in the Fan, will be opening a second location in November – The Kickstand. Al Harris over at Richmond Bizsense (who is killing it in restaurant news BTW) spoke with Co-owner Noelle Archibald, who is hoping for a November opening at the 1717 Summit Avenue location. The Kickstand will serve brewed coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. They are even hoping to open another location in Church Hill within the next year.
Olio Downtown is now open! For those of you who have always been fans of the European Market on West Main, there is now another location on EAST Main. The second location is officially located at 600 East Main Street, in the lobby of the Chamber of Commerce building. Full espresso bar and breakfast menu is available from 7am-10am and familiar Olio lunch options available from 11am – 3pm.
In more restaurant opening news, construction has started up again on Buz and Ned’s at the corner of Parham and Broad. They are estimating an opening date in late fall. I wonder if Bobby Flay will need to throw down with Buz again in a different kitchen this time . . ?
Lots of restaurant openings, but don’t forget we are also in high season for food festivals. Saturday marks the first day of October, and what says October 1 like some barbecue!? Hogtober is a new festival making its debut at Libby Hill Park in Historic Church Hill. You may remember a previous annual event put on by Church Hill residents called High On the Hog, which ended in 2006. Style Weekly and the Church Hill Association have partnered to create the entirely _new_ Hogtober. The festival will run from 12pm – 7pm and is free. Buz & Ned’s, Extra Billy’s, the Halligan Bar and Grill, and Alamo BBQ will be making the eats and the tunes will be provided by Jackass Flats, People’s Blues of Richmond, B2B Band, Rosie Soul and the Rock ‘N’ Roll Cowboys, and the Atkinsons.
