March diaper drive at Henrico Public Libraries
Throughout the month of March, all branches of the Henrico Public Library will accept diaper donations for Capital Diaper Bank.

When our son was an infant, he never had to worry where his next diaper was coming from–or if one was coming at all. I feel fairly secure in the assumption that your children were or are in boats similar to our little boy’s. But that’s not the case for far too many children in Virginia.
According to Capital Diaper Bank (yes, there is one– more on that in a minute), 1 in 30 children in Virginia are homeless, go hungry, or wear reused diapers daily.
By “reused”, they don’t mean cloth diapers that have been laundered. They mean disposable diapers–you know, diapers that were invented with intention that they be thrown out once soiled. But the parents of these kids can’t afford to do that. So the diapers get reused, leaving these babies vulnerable to infection.
Since 1994 Capital Diaper Bank has been providing free diapers statewide to infants and toddlers whose families are experiencing a financial crisis due to unemployment, homelessness, illnesses, hospitalization, and disasters. In 2014 alone, Capital Diaper Bank distributed over 1.8 million diapers (and served more than 6,700 families1) across Virginia.
You can help Capital Diaper Bank achieve its vision “to change lives…one diaper, one baby, one family, one community at a time” by dropping off diaper donations at any Henrico County Public Library branch throughout the month of March. So the next time you’re on your way to story time or to sheepishly return a stack of grotesquely overdue DVDs, stop by your preferred grocer and pick up a package or two of disposable diapers. The families served by Capital Diaper Bank are going through so much; let’s help them take this one thing off their lists of worries.
