Mammu Zu makes national press, Phil’s gets new digs, and get ready to sample S@mple

Richmond staple Phil’s has a new location in the West End, the Roosevelt will lend its space for a Secco chef to ‘Meddle’, and Rowland’s readies for a wine dinner next week.

It’s official, Phil’s is open at their new location: 5810 Grove Avenue. Now all we need is a unseasonably warm day for Richmond to grab some adult limeades and solid porch time. Weather Dan, please make this happen!

S@mple, the tech savvy restaurant taking over the former Sprout location, is officially opening this Friday the 13th. Based off the pictures they have been posting on their Facebook page, the food looks incredible. Make time to try this place out, and if you’ve got some emails to catch up on, all the more reason to head over. S@mple is located at 1 North Morris Street in the Fan.

According to, Mamma Zu got some great press this week from Saveur Magazine, “a magazine for people who experience the world through food first.” Mamma Zu made the Saveur 100 list, which highlights the best dishes they’ve partaken in, restaurants they’ve dined in, libations they’ve imbibed in, etc. throughout the years. Way to go Mamma Zu, we all knew you had the some amazing Italian food, but we are now glad others know as well!

Time is running out to purchase tickets for fourth annual RVANews Beer Dinner, this year hosted at The Roosevelt. Chef Lee Gregory has four courses set perfectly paired with four beers all for just $45 per person. January 22nd is the date, so mark you calendars and get your tickets here.

And speaking of The Roosevelt, on February 19th and 20th it will be hosting Meddle which is a pop-up restaurant from Secco’s chef Tim Bereika and Collin Wagner. They will be producing a four course meal for $65 which includes tax and tip, but not drinks. Tickets are available at Secco (cash only). Seating will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

Rowland Fine Dining will be hosting a wine dinner on January 18th that includes five courses all perfectly paired with an appropriate wine. Tickets are $55 per person and does not include tax or tip. You can check out their menu out here.
