King of Pops opening artisan sandwich shop in Scott’s Addition next week

The Reign will offer a variety of sandwiches served on Billy Bread on the Pop Patio beginning April 6th.

Paul Cassimus, owner of King of Pops, is expanding the offerings at his Scott’s Addition pop-making space beyond just frozen treats. On April 6th, Cassimus will launch “The Reign,” an artisan sandwich shop, at 3001 West Clay Street.

In a news release, Cassimus said he plans to “serve sandwiches that are inspired by the concepts that we use to make pops: fresh, high quality ingredients, options that are a little different than your typical variety, and using local ingredients whenever possible.”

“The concept came about this winter while I was thinking of how to expand the Patio and it’s offerings to best serve the growing Scott’s Addition neighborhood,” he said. “We also wanted to find ways to work more with local farms like we do with King of Pops, and creating a sandwich concept will help us both serve our guests better at the Patio and allow us to work more closely with local farms. Things like Hanover Tomatoes just don’t work too well with popsicles.”

He hopes to move the shop to its own location independent of King of Pops’ space sometime in 2017.

The initial offerings will include the Italian Musco, The Turkey Zesto, The Ham Jam, The Best Grilled Cheese, and The Chive Turkey. All sandwiches are served on locally-made Billy Bread and can be enjoyed hot or cold.

The Reign, along with King of Pops’ pop patio, are open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Sunday from noon until 7:00 PM.
