Kids cool off at Lewis Ginter

Our local pools don’t open for a few more weeks, but Lewis Ginter’s Water Play is up and running!

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s Water Play area officially opened back in April, but you and the kids can actually enjoy it now that Richmond’s weather has finally gotten with the program.

Located in the Children’s Garden, Water Play offers kids a fun-but-not-frantic splash time with gentle water sprays and a soft, spongy play surface that’s a little more forgiving to those who tend to tumble. There’s also a Parent Rest Area right next to Water Play where you (and any little ones who might need to take a break in the shade) can relax with the kids in sight. Also, please note: water shoes (or comparable footwear) are recommended, and swim diapers are required for not-yet-potty-trained visitors.

Water Play is open daily through September 30th except on days when the temps fall below 70 degrees.1 Here’s when you and yours can plan to play…

  • Saturdays and Sundays April 20th through September 27th: 9:00 AM – 4:45 PM
  • Weekdays April 20th through June 12th: 1:00 – 4:45 PM
  • Weekdays June 15th through September 11th: 9:00 AM – 4:45 PM
  • Weekdays September 14th through September 30th: 1:00 – 4:45 PM

Water Play also offers extended hours during Flowers after Five, which takes place from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday evenings in June, July, and August.

Access to the Children’s Garden and Water Play is included with admission to Lewis Ginter: $12 for adults; $11 for senior; $8 for kids ages three to 12; and free for members and kids under three. For more information, visit lewisginter.org.

  1. And weather permitting–so if there’s a thunderstorm happening, no dice.
