Interview: Peyton Ware on family, fun and community at the new farmers market

Marketing Manager discusses the importance of a farmers market in Church Hill.

It’s been widely reported that the new Urban Farmhouse in Church Hill and GrowRVA have decided to expand their original one-off idea of a farmers market into a monthly enterprise. I spoke with Peyton Ware, marketing manager for the Urban Farmhouse, about this new endeavor.

Q: In your opinion, how important is it that the Church Hill community have a new farmers market?

A: It is very important and something the Church Hill community truly took to. It is important to join both the community and the local  farmers, artisians, and vendors through events such as a Farmer’s Market. We are committed to providing farm to table meals, healthy dining options, and a healthy lifestyle. By having a farmer’s market with vendors that share the same principles, we are able to show the Church Hill community what we are all about at the urban Farmhouse market & café.

Q: What was it about the success of the grand opening farmers market that convinced the Urban Farmhouse and GrowRVA to make this a seasonal tradition?

A: Not only did we have overwhelming success from our Grand Opening event, but we also had a need and want from the Church Hill community to continue the Farmer’s Market tradition.

Q: What are some of the specific offerings Church hill residents can expect?

Y: At the March 28 event we will have vendors such as Legends Brewery, Hardywood Brewery, Lickinghole Creek Brewery, and many more from the urban Farmhouse. We will also have GrowRVA vendors such as local bread makers, jewelers, craftsmen, and artisans. Fourth Fridays will also always be a kid-friendly event! We will have face painting, animals, and popcorn! Every fourth Friday we will also have a live local musician. March 28 we will be featuring Tabb Justis.

Q: How did the Urban Farmhouse and GrowRVA become partners in this new endeavor?

A: GrowRVA is very prominent in the community for having an awesome Farmer’s Market! We teamed up with them for our grand opening event to offer a farmers market to the Church Hill community. Due to the success we had a few weeks ago, we decided to continue our partnership! We could not be more excited to team with a great organization!

Q: What is your ultimate goal for the farmers market? How do you see it fitting into the existing community?

A: I already see the farmers market becoming a staple for the existing community. Many residents seek fresh, local, and healthy options…by offering a farmer’s market once a month it will be right in their backyard! Our goal is to become a vital part of the Church Hill community and offer these options to our Church Hill neighbors!
