Housing development plans for next to Bryan Park withdrawn
No more talk of development on one of the sites for at least a year.
The plan to build 48 townhomes on the border of Bryan Park had been met with organized resistance from Friends of Bryan Park and others that were concerned of the developments impact on the park. The resistance was effective and the request for the required rezoning has been withdrawn.
The parcel in question, in red above, is one of two properties that border the park. One section, in blue above, had perviously been approved and it’s unknown at this time if those effort will go forward.
Because the proposal had been advertised for a public meeting, the Henrico County Board of Supervisors is now prohibited from hearing and considering any similar proposal for the parcel for one year.
The park belongs to the city of Richmond. The property line dividing the park from the parcel in question is also the Henrico line.
“I think it’s a very encouraging (turn of events),” said John Zeugner, an urban planner and president of the Friends of Bryan Park. “The Friends of Bryan Park would like to try to talk to the developers about options to acquire the property or facilitate its donation, or work with some other groups to develop the properties as less-detrimental land uses.”
