Half Marathon registration reaches cap, additional 200 slots added

The American Family Fitness Half Marathon has become one of RVA’s most popular annual races. This year’s few remaining slots should go fast.

Fewer than 200 slots remain for the November 16th American Family Fitness Half Marathon after Sports Backers, organizers of the annual event, announced that the race had reached its 9,000-person capacity for the second consecutive year. They’ve added 200 slots to accommodate more runners. The Half Marathon is a companion race to the annual Richmond Marathon.

“The American Family Fitness Half Marathon has been increasing in popularity since it began in 2008,” said event director Lisa Randolph in a statement. “We know there are still people out there who have been waiting to sign up, so we are giving those people a final chance to register before it closes.”

Registration for the Half Marathon is available online and costs $100 per entry.

Here’s a breakdown of registered participants for the Half Marathon by year:

  • 2008 — 4,619
  • 2009 — 5,572
  • 2010 — 6,605
  • 2011 — 7,493
  • 2012 — 8,215
  • 2013 — 9,000+

The Richmond Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8k takes place on November 16th.
