The final product looks amazing. The dining room is clean, bright, and homey (but without the kitsch), and the logo and menu design fit the place perfectly. No doubt, Richmonders will be heading there in droves to soak it all up.

Stop by and check out. And don’t forget to rate it on Eats so your fellow Richmonders know what to expect.

  1. The German style ham sandwich may be the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten (apple butter AND dijon mustard??). The sweet potato soup was amazing, with spiced walnuts plopped in the center and red bell pepper for garnish. And my side salad was topped with a grapefruit and basil vinaigrette. Come on. Oh, and the mint lemonade was fantastic. What’d you all get?

Since I had no clue where Garnett’s was located (I’ll blame the rain!), here’s the info you get when clicking on the link:
    http://garnettscafe.com
    2001 W. Park Avenue
    804-367-7909

  3. I had the meatloaf sandwich with gorgonzola which blew my mind. The black-eyed pea salad was also great — it had grapefruit in it!

  4. I posted Garnett’s impressive menu of sandwiches (and salads and apps) on my blog: http://www.rvafoodie.com/?p=922 I can’t wait to try Kendra’s new place.

the cobb salad was great, too! they even don’t skimp on the avocado, giving an entire half sliced on top. the bacon was in nice big chunks, too. it wasn’t doused in dressing, and was a very good (but not over-done) portion.

I had the Croque Garnett. It was lovely, as was the potato salad and the HOMEMADE chocolate pecan pie. Kendra told me they are doing Beer and Wine once their ABC license goes through in a couple of weeks, with supposedly a good selection of each. Also from 7am-11am they are doing “Self-Serve” coffee and homemade muffins and scones and some sort of gourmet sounding coffee.

  7. I had the chicken salad. It was the BEST chicken salad I’ve ever had, and I’ve had tons of it (it’s usually my go-to choice if I’m undecided on what to order). Not too much mayo, super tangy, ACK SO GOOD.

the grilled cheese with gouda and gruyere was pretty much sublime. and that chocolate pecan pie OH MY LAWD. it tastes like a southern baptist church pot luck to me. the sweet tea is a little too sweet for me, but i’m definitely ordering the mint lemonade next time.

I loved their twist on lemonade by adding a mint flavor and having it carbonated. I also had the chicken salad with potato salad, which was awesome. I loved it’s concentration of flavors and there wasn’t too much mayo. For dessert I got the Hummingbird cake, which tasted like a really moist twist on banana bread with cream cheese frosting. Also, they had great customer service. I’m definitely going back again.

i’m going back for dinner tonight! i’m pretty sure i’m getting whatever that garlic white bean spread sandwich is. it is dangerous to put an amazing sandwich shop less than a block away from me. i forgot to mention that i got a homemade chocolate chip scone and coffee yesterday morning and it was pretty heavenly.

  11. What are their hours?! The website link offered in a previous comment doesn’t work.

  12. If I’m not mistaken (which I might be), the coffee shop is open from 7-11am, then it turns into the luncheonette from 11am-11pm. Can anybody else confirm that?

thanks for all the kind words everybody! Yes those hours are correct. The lunch counter isnt open on Mondays. On Mondays we just have coffee from 7 am until 11 am. As soon as we get up to speed we will open 7 days a week.
