Now that we’re a little further into the growing season, the gardens are starting to yield their delicious bounty. This week we’ve got some bonafide, meal-worthy produce to look at! Check it out below, and don’t forget to vote.

Erik Bonkovsky
Asparagus (one of the only perennial vegetables) stalks shoot heavenward oblivious to nearby decapitated kin.
Our son patiently waited fifteen months for the first raspberries to ripen; they are worth the wait.
Backyard beets–sweet and earthy–are far removed from the bland gelatinous bulbs you endured in the cafeteria.

These are the same sugar snap plants you saw last week, but I love how the leaves wick and allow the beads of water to roll right off protecting it from fungus and disease.
Yep, tomato flowers. Everyone has seen these, but did you know that the little fuzz on the plant is responsible for the aroma of the plant and protects it from insects and pathogens?
Our early blueberries are here and ripe and delicious. It’s our smallest plant so we are really looking forward to harvesting our larger plants in the next couple of weeks.

I could eat cucumbers for dinner every night during summer, especially tossed with balsamic and fresh tomatoes. This is the first to be consumed of the dozens on our vines.
Both Thea and our dog, Rilo, love raw green beans. Which is why we staggered our planting–beans all summer long! Not pictured: Rilo totally sneaking peas from the garden.
Thea was stoked about the carrots–even if she won’t eat any of them. This was our first real harvest week: a cucumber, carrots, beans, and two grocery bags of swiss chard.

Well don’t get used to it, because that is all I have! I hope everyone likes images of tomatoes growing incrementally larger.
