Garden Wars!!! And the winner is…

We had a record number of comments and votes last week, the final match-up in the epic battle over whose greens reign supreme. In the end, it came down to one vote… one vote that would make one man victorious and determine the agricultural fate of all involved.

We had a record number of comments and votes last week, the final match-up in the epic battle over whose greens reign supreme. In the end, it came down to one vote… one vote that would make one man victorious and determine the agricultural fate of all involved.

(We have a flair for the dramatic, what of it?)

After much campaigning from our competitors on Twitter and Facebook (and a little smack-talking in the comments) our winner from last week was: Sarvay!

So that means our, overall, supreme, champion winner is…

Sarvay!

And Pharr!

And Smartt!

That’s right, 4-4-4. Everybody wins! It’s just like pee wee soccer! Now if only we had medals engraved with “Participant” to hand out. And/or orange slices and Capri Suns.

Sarvay’s win put our final standings at:
Sarvay: 4 (winning weeks 3, 7, 10, and 12)
Pharr: 4 (winning weeks 1 and 4, and 8, 11)
Smartt: 4 (winning weeks 2, 5, 6, and 9)

Thanks to everyone who voted throughout the 12 (!!!) weeks we did this. We had so much fun and it wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining without your comments and support.

For those of you all bummed out because it was tie, well, blame those who didn’t vote. And math, you can also blame math.

(Be sure to tune in next week for the newest epic battle we have up our sleeves. It’s gonna be GREAT.)

  2. I think this means the RVA News crew will treat the gardeners to a fancy dinner at a fancy restaurant. k bye.

Glad this is OVER. Tired of hearing about 3 white dudes gardens. Has nothing to do with news. Maybe fun for the staff there, but a waste of credibility for RVAnews.

  4. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it, Dwayne, but it seems plenty of other people did. Thanks to everyone who voted!

I absolutely loved this series, and I’m a bit sad it’s over! Congrats to all 3 fabulous gardeners!

    Wow wasn’t that anti-climactic.

Dwayne, good to know someone else out there thought this was a waste of time as well. Maybe now we can get some news on this site.

  7. Dave and Dwayne, we’ve got lots of news for you! Be sure to check our News section, as well as our Sports section and our list of Features. And you should definitely go through the Community news sites listed on the home page. They do a really great job.

This feature was intended to be fun and to get our readers thinking about how great it can be to grow their own food. It seems to have served its purpose.

  8. Doesn’t this Dwayne guy just comment to complain about nearly every segment RVANews does?

And since when do news sites only report capital-N, NEWS? People like to read about things and people that are doing fun and cool things in their community. This is a perfect example. Certainly not everyone is going to like all segments, but guess what?– you can just click through to something else! That’s the beauty of online publications–lots to see, something for everyone, instant access.

Suggestions of what you’d like to see instead would be more helpful.

  9. Haters gonna hate, you know.
