Free screening of Slavery by Another Name
March 20th at the Virginia Historical Society.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Douglas Blackmon, Slavery by Another Name tells the stories of black men who were unfairly imprisoned, abused, and subjected to deadly working conditions as convict laborers between the 1870s and 1940s. The film is 90 minutes and will shown at the Virginia Historical Society in the Robins Family Forum. After the film there will be a facilitated discussion led by the Richmond Peace Education Center.
All across the country various organizations are taking part in the Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle film series in 2014. Created Equal uses the power of documentary films to encourage communities to re-examine the meaning of civil rights in twenty-first century American society.
