Food news: Lucy’s in Jackson Ward, Alcove downtown, and Bogart’s in The Fan

And here it is: your final Food News of 2013!

Lucy’s Restaurant in Jackson Ward opened on December 21st. While we don’t have a ton of details (yet) on the new spot, the interior looks nice and their Facebook is already loaded with positive feedback.

Lucy’s is located at 404 N. 2nd Street. They’ll host Sunday brunch this weekend and then open for their first dinner on New Year’s Eve. Make your reservations now if you’re interested.

A new Indian restaurant, Alcove, will open in the old A2 location at 1112 E. Main Street on December 27th (tomorrow!). According to, Alcove will serve nothing Americanized, only authentic Indian cuisine with a focus on lighter and healthier options.

Garland Taylor, owner of Home Team Grill in The Fan and elsewhere, has decided to open a fourth restaurant out in the West End. Urban Tavern will branch out from Taylor’s previous sports bar endeavors to something a little more taverny and trendy. Don’t worry, it will have the requisite number of beers on taps.

If, for the past couple of decades, you’ve loved Bogart’s in The Fan, you have just a handful of days left before they close on December 31st. We pretty much knew this was coming after owner Jim Bacas said “I’m going on 70 years old. I don’t need this shit,” back in June. Bummer.

— ∮∮∮ — has some more details on the new EAT Restaurant Partners spot at the corner of Main and Lombardy: t’will be called Foo Dog and will serve Asian street food. I’m stoked for any sort of street food, but especially when it’s located on my street.

Did you know that Baker’s Crust, typically known for it’s gluten-filled menu items, has a pretty extensive gluten-free menu? Wild! They’ve got salads, sandwiches, pizzas–pretty much everything you could want out of a menu, gluten or otherwise. Thanks to Style Weekly for the tip.
