Fire tears through apartment complex, displacing 19 residents

The blaze at the Hickory Creek Apartments is still under investigation.

Henrico Fire crews rescued eight people Monday evening when a fire broke out at the Hickory Creek Apartments in the 2300 block of Hickory Creek Road around 7:00 PM.

First responders reported heavy fire and smoke coming from a first floor unit, with flames making their way all the way to the third floor soon thereafter.

A total of 19 people–18 adults and one child–were displaced by the blaze, according to authorities.

Eight of the ten units in the apartment building were damaged before crews marked the fire under control around 7:30 PM.

A number of residents stayed with family or friends Monday evening; three other families were being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to a tweet the organization posted.

There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
