Favorites: DeLuca Gelato’s pistacchio

It’s reckless to call anything perfect, let alone something so subjective as food. But concerning the pistacchio gelato ($4 for a medium cup) at DeLuca Gelato, perfect is the only appropriate descriptor for so expert an expression of flavor. Don’t get me wrong–I love nearly every variety I’ve tasted from DeLuca, whose product would feel at home as much in Italy as in Richmond’s far West End. The pistacchio, however, manages to highlight its featured ingredient so prominently that you almost forget you’re eating ice cream. I’d drive from much further than downtown for that.
