Favorites: Billy Bread

Bread is the West’s most basic food, but basic rarely means easy or delicious. That’s why I admire the focus of Billy Fallen and his one-product operation. It’s hard to categorize Billy Bread (price varies around town) but easy to understand how tasty it is while your remaining senses share the experience: a toasty brown exterior; a weighty thump on the cutting board; a grainy aroma when you cut into the loaf; a chewy crust and tender crumb. You’ve likely eaten this fine bread in various restaurants around town, but you can also find it in stores from neighborhood shops to Kroger.
