Children’s Hospital accepting applications for Junior Volunteers

Teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 can now apply for summer volunteer positions at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond’s MCV Campus.

If you’ve got a teen looking to give a little back this summer (and/or log some community service hours for college applications and what not), now is a good time to get the ball rolling. And lucky for them, the Children’s Hospital of Richmond’s MCV Campus is now accepting applications for its Junior Volunteers Program.¹ 

The Junior Volunteers Program offers teens ages 14 to 17 the opportunity to experience the warm heart fuzzies² that come with donating their time and services; it also gives them the chance to explore career options in the medical field. There will be two volunteer sessions during the summer of 2014, each lasting three weeks. Session I runs July 7th through 24th (mandatory orientation on July 2nd), and Session II runs July 28th through August 14th (mandatory orientation on July 25th). Volunteers will serve Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM during these three-week sessions.

The application packet for the Junior Volunteers Program can be accessed here. Applications must be submitted no later than March 15th to be considered. Also, please note: the packet includes a recommendation form to be completed by a teacher or guidance counselor, so get your kids thinking about who can best sing their praises.

Those interested must be at least 14 years old by June 1st of this year. As this is a very competitive program, each applicant will be interviewed as part of the application process. There is also a $25 fee for students accepted into the program to help offset administrative and operational costs.

The Junior Volunteers Program also places teenagers at the Children’s Hospital’s Brook Road Campus. The application for those summer positions will be available March 1st.
