Busy bees on Broad Street
Observe the secret life of honeybees all summer long at the Science Museum of Virginia.
Thanks to a partnership between the Science Museum of Virginia and the Richmond Beekeepers Association, we have the chance to observe the secret life of honeybees all summer long.
The newly installed Observational Honeybee Hive opened to the public yesterday and features glass paneling and an outdoor tunnel, offering visitors an up-close look as the colony gathers nectar, forages for pollen, builds a honeycomb, and goes about general bee business. If you’re really lucky, you might even be able to spot the queen.1
The Hive is available for viewing during regular museum hours, but for those of you with particularly buzzing bee questions, the Richmond Beekeepers Association will have a Beekeeper on duty Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 AM and on Sundays from 1:30 to 2:30 PM to drop some serious honeybee knowledge and what not.
Access to The Hive is included with museum admission. Exhibit tickets are $11 with discounts available for children and seniors (members get in for free).
