Bryan Park Nature Center programs for April

Learn about the frogs and birds in the park.

The Bryan Park Nature Center kicked off a busy summer this past Saturday but there is plenty going on in April and May.

Bryan Park Nature Center Schedule through May

  • April 12 Amphibians: Frogs are amphibians but who else fits into this class? How do they find mates and what is special about tadpoles? Let’s explore Bryan Park to find out!
  • April 19 Birds: Oh boy! Animals with bright feathers in spring time! Who will we find in Joseph Bryan Park? Are they staying in Bryan Park or migrating north?
  • May 10 Family Fishing: Virginia Fishing Adventures will be teaching a family fishing class. Parents and children will learn some basic fishing techniques and be introduced to the fishing opportunities at Bryan Park. All equipment provided. No experience necessary. Parents wishing to fish must have a valid fishing license. Fishing licenses may be purchased online.
  • May 17 Reptiles: Let’s look for basking turtles on Bryan Park’s ponds today. A shed snake skin will lead us to discuss turtles, snakes and lizards and their common similarities.

Anyone can pre-register for these family- oriented events at bryanparknaturecenter@gmail.com. Signup the day of the event is available but only if there is room left in the class. Classes are free, but participants are welcome to leave a small donation, which will go to the Nature Center Fund.

All programs are from 10:30 till noon at the Nature Center unless otherwise stated. Park at Shelter 1 and follow the signs for about 10 minutes. Handicap access is possible just let the staff know ahead of time.

Friends of Bryan Park would like to thanks Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities for making this Nature Center possible.
