Ask Lauren: Bridesmaid lunch, veggie Super Bowl, and no crap wines

What to do about a downtown bridesmaid lunch, the opportunity to woo a vegetarian, and where to find cheap wines that aren’t crap.

Now, through the magic of the internet, you too can ask Lauren your myriad food-related questions. Well, technically, you can leave your questions in the comments below, I’ll ask Lauren, and then I’ll let you know what she says. It’s like the three-legged stool of restaurant recommendations.

The Friday before my wedding, we want to have a bridesmaid lunch somewhere nice. Since the reception is at the Jefferson, I wanted to go somewhere different, nearby, but still nice. Any ideas?

Bistro 27 is within walking distance of The Jefferson and does a super nice lunch—with white table cloths and everything! The food’s great, the wine list is good, and the menu’s big enough to please each and every bridesmaid and mother-in-law.

I’m hosting a Super Bowl party at my house and at the same time trying to impress this girl who happens to be a vegetarian. The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach right? Where can I pick up some veggie options (to include among 100 things of boneless wings) that are good and make it look like I tried?

Fresca on Addison has an entire deli case of assorted vegetarian (and vegan) side dishes. Pick up a few of those, grab a couple of veggie pizzas, and you’ll have a significant amount of veggie options that will definitely make it look like you try.

Not sure how I feel about your choice of boneless wings though…

I love a good wine-oriented happy hour, but I feel like all the good deals are centered around crap wines. Where can I get a nice glass for a discount?

  1. Viceroy has $5 glasses of wine during their happy hour, 4:00 – 7:00 PM every day.
  2. Viceroy offers a selection of Barboursville wines.
  3. Ergo, Viceroy has excellent Virginia-based wine for just five bucks during happy hour!

And that’s how I proved that not all happy hours are centered around crap wines.
