Architecture Richmond profiles Richmond Community High School

Built in 1915 designed by Charles M. Robinson and the first school to integrate.

Community High school was built in 1915 and designed by architect Charles M. Robinson. Architecture Richmond takes a architectural look at the building and mentions two dramatic firsts that the school has achieved.

Their building was originally home to Chandler Middle School. In 1960, Chandler became the first public school in Richmond to racially integrate. Richmond Community boasts another first; founded in 1977, it was the first public high school for the gifted in America to focus on minority and low income students.
