5 Things: Shopping, lights, plays, space pirates, and space wars

1. Christmas Shopping

For those of you who still need to finish up your shopping (or if you’re like me and haven’t gotten started yet), there are plenty of options this weekend that don’t involve wading through the Short Pump Mall traffic or soccer moms.

1a. 2nd Annual Atlas Holiday Market at Art180

This month, Art180 is turning its studio into a holiday market. For sale will be crafty crafts created by local artists. That you can’t find anywhere else! Totally unique! Check it out!

• Monday – Friday through December 18th, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (or until 8:00 PM on December 18th)

1b. Best Ever Trunk Show at Quirk Gallery

Find exclusive jewelry, apparel, crafts, and other great things that you will only find at a trunk show that’s the best ever.

• December 19th, 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

1c. Drift/Riot Mother Daughter Trunk Show at Quirk Gallery

If you missed the Quirk Gallery trunk show the day before, or loved it so much you just can’t get enough trunk show in your weekend, don’t fret. Another batch of handmade crafts and creations await your viewing and purchasing pleasure at Quirk Gallery.

• December 20th, 12:00 – 4:00 PM

So go get some Christmas gifts! Or non-holiday related gifts! Or just buy something and don’t give it to anybody! That’s allowed too!

2. Dominion GardenFest of Lights at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Everyone knows Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden has beautiful plants and trees and flowers and stuff. But wait a second…they’ve covered everything in lights! Of all different types and colors!! Even the pictures are stunning; just looking at the website made me say “wow.” Involuntarily. It’s that amazing.

• Daily through January 11th, 5:00 – 10:00 PM
• Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Ave
• $12 adults, $11 seniors, $8 kids, $7 Garden members

3. Third Annual There’s No Winter in Space Non-Denominational Holiday Special

Hosted by the League of Space Pirates (do I even need to continue?), this non-denominational show will include a balanced blend of belly-dancers, comedians, rappers, masters of quirky pop, and a dance party pioneer (who sounds like a person I want to get to know). Pirate and/or robot attire not mandatory but recommended.

• December 20th, 8:00 PM
• Richmond Comedy Coalition, 8 W. Broad Street
• $10

4. Star Wars

“Star Wars, a movie you want to go see,” is my best Yoda impression. “Luke…I am your movie you should see,” is my best Darth Vader impression. “Guys, if you like good movies, go see this one,” is my best myself impression. I don’t think much description is needed for this…just go see Star Wars. Tickets are still available but please be aware! Of costume restrictions!! Creative yet safe costume wear is encouraged. • Movie theater showings are ample and abundant. Find the next available one!

5. Theatre

See a Christmas-themed play! Or a non-Christmas-themed play! Or both! For the heart-warming holiday cheer sap in you, check out Drifty and the Chocolate Factory. For the Christmas traditionalist in you, check out Holiday Memories. For the I-love-plays-but-I-would-rather-see-one-about-baseball-instead-of-Christmas in you, check out Damn Yankees.
