5 Things: Greek food, music outdoors, pigs, bourbon, beer, and crystal balls

I am looking closely at your palm, and I can see…wait, what is this? It’s…it’s things. Five of them! Five of them to do this weekend!

I am looking closely at your palm, and I can see…wait, what is this? It’s…it’s things. Five of them! Five of them to do this weekend!

1. 40th Annual Greek Festival

If trays full of the most delicious of Mediterranean cuisine is your thing, get yourself to the land of milk and honey that is the Westhampton area. Make a drive-through order if you wish, but do schedule some time to stop by and see the dancing, drink the delicious Greek wine, and stuff your face under some tents. I recommend lunchtime, it tends to get way crowded later on.

  • Thursday, May 28th – Sunday, May 31st • see site for schedule
  • Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Avenue
  • Free to attend!

2. Friday Cheers: Moon Taxi / Sleepwalkers

I enjoy both of these bands’ names very much, AND the latter is a good Richmond band that I have had the pleasure of experiencing! I experienced the band! Check out our carefully considered write-up. You’re too late to win free tickets from us this week, but perhaps the next? Be more punctual!

  • Friday, May 29th • 6:00 PM
  • Brown’s Island
  • $5 for adults, $0 for kids

3. Richmond Symphony at Pocahontas State Park

The Symphony is gettin’ casual this Saturday, with a free outdoor performance at Pocahontas State Park, where they’ll play all SORTS of things (seriously, check it out) that’ll be fun for you, the family, everyone. Bring a picnic basket. Let the kids run around. Close your eyes. It’s summer.

  • Saturday, May 30th • 7:00 PM
  • Pocahontas State Park, Heritage Amphitheater, 10301 State Park Road
  • Free!

4. Beer, Bourbon & BBQ

Please click the above link and then return here for the following………….Every year, that same pig! That same pig in the picture! Looking like it’s already dead, or at least bemoaning the fact that it’s about to be. I hear this festival is a wildly entertaining time involving a lot of flesh, both of the human and swine variety.

  • Saturday, May 30th • 12:00 – 6:00 PM
  • Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Avenue
  • See site for various ticket prices, including a designated driver price

5. Psychic Festival

I love love love lingering about the Ellwood and Thompson area on the weekend of the psychic festival, because (and I am not saying this with any amount of sarcasm) the sight of people in velvet and sometimes cone-shaped hats just makes me happy. Maybe this year I will get up the guts to go and dabble in the occult. My head says it’s not real, but my heart wants so badly to believe. Oh, and also, proceeds go towards building a school in Kenya! It’s the largest psychic fest in Virginia!

  • Saturday, May 30th – Sunday, May 31st • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Saturday) and 12:00 – 6:00 PM (Sunday)
  • Aquarian Bookshop, 3519 Ellwood Avenue
  • Free to attend, but $18 for 15 minute psychic session
