1. HERstory: A Woman’s Worth
Herstory: A Woman’s Worth is an Art exhibition comprised of the collective talent and art work of B.A.S.E.( Black Art Student Empowerment), a VCU-based pro-Black organization that seeks to establish safe spaces for people of color and allies to have open conversations outside of the classroom. The exhibit will be up until March 24th, so see it while you can! And It’s also Women’s History Month, and just last week it was Black History Month. This event could knock out two months worth of cultural education in one night. What are the odds, right?
- Friday, March 4th • 6:00 – 9:00 PM
- ART 180’s ATLAS gallery, 114 W. Marshall Street
- This one is free
2. UNOS Opening Art Exhibition Reception
So we all have seen at least one movie or read a book in our respective lifetimes where one of the main characters in the story has to sacrifice part(s) of themselves in order for others to live. Well, believe it or not, those stories and circumstances actually do exist. Ken Schuler, is the world’s first living liver donor and is the artist whose artwork will be featured in the UNOS: Art Gallery this coming Friday. And you can look forward to impressive art from an impressive individual.
- Friday, March 4th • 5:00 – 7:30 PM
- UNOS: Art Gallery, 700 N. 4th Street
- This one is also free
3. Richmond International Film Festival
Guess what time of year it is!! International film festival time!!. So hey, listen I could go on and on about how great this whole weekend can be for you. And I could go on and on about how great my weekend would be if I could go to RIFF (Richmond International Film Festival) but instead, I have work for AP classes that needs to get done. All in all, the moral of this story is simple: don’t be like me, have some fun this weekend despite schoolwork. Or work-work.

4. The Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Tournament
For the third year running, the Atlantic 10 women’s teams come the Coliseum to face off. These teams (there are 14, it’s confusing, don’t think about it) include the Rams and Spiders! It started yesterday and goes through Sunday, and with any luck VCU and/or University of Richmond will do well! Richmond won yesterday, and they play VCU today at 2:00 PM! Augh!
- Through Sunday, March 6th • see Atlantic 10 site for scheduling details
- Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh Street
- $20
5. Between The Buried & Me, August Burns Red at the National
So I think most of us have had that one friend who is heavily into listening to heavy metal. And they try to convince you to listen to it and you can’t understand what they’re saying to you but you’re too nice to say that you don’t like it. And eventually a domino effect begins to take place and you’re now stuck going to a concert with this same friend whom you never told the truth to so many years ago. Support your friends guys, but also speak up. Anyway, if you’re just looking for a nearby live show to attend, then the National is always a good spot.
- Saturday, March 5th • 6:30 – 9:00 PM
- The National, 708 E. Broad Street
- $23
