5 Things for Families: Adult children, English nannies, turkey parades, ruby slippers, and…raking?

One more weekend before the holidays get going like gang-busters! Better get in on the relatively mellow (but positively delightful) haps while you can.

1. Surviving the Transition to Adulthood: We Made it to 18- Now What?

Wait. We have to do stuff once they turn 18? What the heck, guys? Geri M. Lotze, Ph. D. will lead this forum exploring the changes that occur in parenting as our children grow older, primarily focusing on “our 18-25 year old children.” Registration required.

2. Mary Poppins

I don’t claim that an umbrella-wielding nanny is the solution to all the problems in this world, but she sure wouldn’t hurt. Produced by CharacterWorks, this stage adaptation of the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Disney film is sure to give you and your little ones enough warm fuzzies to hold you over a good, long while.

3. One Great Morning of Raking

Time to pay Maymont back for all those countless summer days spent hanging out with baby goats and rolling down the big hill. Bring your rakes and spend the morning helping the horticulture staff tidy up the Japanese Garden. It’s the least we can do considering how most of us owe our children’s best naps to that place.

4. CMoR’s Thanksgiving Parade

All Children’s Museum of Richmond locations will be getting in on the Thanksgiving fun with plenty of turkey-centric arts and crafts and Seymour-led parades around their respective facilities.

5. Movies and Mimosas: The Wizard of Oz

Fun fact: TBS played this movie on a loop the night/morning I was in labor with my son, and I still (seven years later) have a hard time watching it without feeling phantom contractions. But don’t let my weird thing stop you from enjoying one of the best films ever made–on the big screen, no less! Hopefully you don’t wince every time you hear “If I Only Had a Brain” like I do.
