1. Wicked Plants

Confession: plants terrify me. I mean, have you seen ivy? Just climbing up ding-dang buildings giving absolutely zero effs? But! because I adore the Science Museum to itty bitty bits, I will consider attending this exhibit featuring “75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants”, including a few in the yard that “secrete sap”, “produce exploding fruit”, and “have hypodermic needles that embed into skin.” (Emphasis my own because WTF, GUYS?)

2. The Maggie Walker Story

Celebrate the life of beloved Richmonder Maggie Walker, the nation’s first female bank bank president and a powerful force in the American Civil Rights movement. This show clocks in at one hour and is recommended for ages 7 and up.

  • Runs Friday, January 30th through Sunday, February 15th • 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM (7:00 PM performance on opening night only)

3. Family Time: The LEGO Movie

Because you really enjoyed having “Everything is Awesome” stuck in your head for all of last year and would like to continue that into 2015.

4. Windows on Waldorf

Ever wonder what the deal is with those incredibly kind and nurturing people wrangling the gazillions of children in that corn bin at South of the James Market? Well, they’re from Richmond Waldorf School, and they will hold an interactive open house this Saturday for families interested in learning more about them. Children are welcome–even encouraged!–to attend.

5. Richmond’s Boys Choir

The Children’s Museum of Richmond invites you to join them in kicking off Black History Month with a performance of historical, traditional, and modern music from Richmond’s Boys Choir

  • Free with admission ($8 for ages 1 and up; free for members and kids under 1)
