This weekend’s family-friendly offerings just make me want to give Richmond a nice, long slow-clap. Have a look-see…
1. Riverrock
Three days of music, food, and cuh-razy sporting events–all gathered on Brown’s Island for your enjoyment. While your kids will probably enjoy the sweet bike tricks, kayaking, and what not, I guarantee they will lose their damn minds over this:

2. Teen Talent: Beauty, Body, and Image Event
Inspired by the exhibit Posing Beauty in African American Culture, Teen Talent: Beauty, Body, and Image will feature works of song, dance, film, spoken word, and monologue performed by kids in grades 6 through 12. Awards will be distributed to the participants and are based on audience choice, so come out and give these young artists your support!

3. How to Make a Monster
This new exhibit at the Science Museum of Virginia shows your kids the awesome things that can happen when art and technology collide. Find out how movie monsters come to be by exploring each element of their creation–from the design and story-boarding process to sculpting and molding to what you see on the big screen. Visitors will also get to be animatronic puppeteers and help bring these monsters to life.

4. ART 180’s The Really Big Show
ART 180’s offered 11 community-based programs in creative expression this spring, and this weekend you’ll get to see what they’ve been up to! You’ll also have the chance to partake in some food truck fare and do a little shopping at the Bizarre Market.

5. Well Worn Pop Up Market
Speaking of shopping, be sure to stop by Gallery 5 and check out goods from 30 of Richmond’s best vintage dealers and local designers–the perfect place to pick out a belated Mother’s Day gift or graduation present. Or to just find super cute/quirky/unique stuff for you and your kids.
