1. 34th Annual Greek Festival

Dancing! Shopping! Culture! Baklava! Sold!

  • Thursday, June 3 (11am to 9:30pm); Friday, June 4 (11am to 10pm); Saturday, June 5 (11am to 10pm); Sunday, June 6 (12pm to 7pm)
  • Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral (30 Malvern Avenue)
  • Admission is free, food costs extra

2. Barenaked Ladies

Am I lame for including this? Meh, I don’t really care because, right or wrong, I love this song:

They’ll be joined by Serena Ryder at this particular stop on their tour.

  • Friday, June 4 (doors open at 6pm)
  • Innsbrook Pavilion (4901 Lake Brook Drive)
  • $22 in advance, $25 at the gate (purchase tickets online)

3. Anthem Stride Through Time 10k

I personally can’t think of a better Saturday morning than one spent striiiiiiiiiding through a city I love. This 10k walk will take you through nine historic districts and past some of Richmond’s most important museums and monuments. No running, you might miss something! We’ve also got a sweet deal here on RVANews where you can enter to win a copy of Wii Sports Resort once you sign up for the walk, so make sure you do that.

  • Saturday, June 5 (8:30am)
  • American Civil War Center (500 Tredegar Street)
  • $25 for adults and $15 for youth if you register online (closes today); $30 for adults and $20 for youth on the day of the event

4. CMoR Short Pump Grand Opening

The Children’s Museum will open the doors of their new location in Short Pump this weekend and, boy howdy, they’ve got some fun planned. Let the kiddies take a trip on the Safari Train, sail the seas on a pirate ship, and create masterpieces with local artists Matt Lively and Ed Trask. We’ll have more on this new branch of CMoR in a special edition of Raising Richmond within the next few days. Stay tuned!

  • Saturday, June 5 (10am to 4pm)
  • CMoR – Short Pump (2200 Old Brick Road)
  • $8 (kids under 1 are free)

5. Broad Appétit

Food, art, and music. That’s what you call Richmond’s Trifecta of Great. At least that’s what I call it — perhaps you will adopt the expression as well. Come on out this weekend to sample it all, along with live demos, musical performances, and general revelry. Trust me, you’ll have a hard time keeping yourself from shouting “YAY RICHMOND!” as you walk down Broad Street.

  • Sunday, June 6 (11am to 5pm)
  • Broad Street, between Monroe and Adams Streets
  • Admission is free (food samples are $3)

None of these sound good? Check out our Events Calendar for more fun stuff going on around town.

As always, if you know of something that deserves a shout out, please do so in the comments OR submit it to the calendar yourself!

  1. I’d be willing to stride through some times if it didn’t happen four hours after my average Saturday morning bedtime.

I wish my wife wasn’t working tonight so we could go see BNL. They really are one of the most innovative pop bands of the past 15 years.

  3. Be sure to check out the next Live at Ipanema event on Sunday Night 10pm.
If you don’t know, it’s a FREE show at Ipanema Cafe that is recorded and hosted here on rvanews (http://rvanews.com/tag/live-at-ipanema/). This time around we have The Florentines(http://www.myspace.com/florentines). An intimate summer show to ease you into next week.
    See you there!
