5 things

Is anyone else finding it impossible to work, what with all this “springtime” being waggled in your face? Good thing we’ve got an awesome Richmond weekend coming up. Look!

Is anyone else finding it impossible to work, what with all this “springtime” being waggled in your face? Good thing we’ve got an awesome Richmond weekend coming up. Look!

1. Slaughterama 7

I love this event because not only does it have the best name ever, it also manages to bring swarms of people to Richmond every year without any backing from a huge corporate sponsor. You know, it’s just some folks on their bikes, throwing beer cans at each other. Ok, it’s not JUST that, but that part is always entertaining. And for those of you a little hesitant about the potential rowdiness, I’ll have you know that I took my then-five-month-old to this last year and did not once feel that we were in danger of getting pummeled.

  • Thursday, April 1 through Sunday, April 4. See website for a schedule of events.
  • Belle Island (300 Tredegar Street)
  • Free!

2. Ghostbusters at The Byrd

Now this song will be in all of your heads…

And, as we all know, Richmond loves Bill Murray.

  • Saturday, April 3/Sunday, April 4, midnight showing (tickets on sale at 11:30pm on Saturday)
  • Byrd Theatre (2908 W. Cary Street)
  • $5, proceeds benefit the Special Olympics

3. Easter in the Heart of the City

Sure, there are tons of Easter egg hunts planned around Richmond this weekend, but this one takes place on the Capitol Lawn which is one of the most beautiful spots in this here town. Plus I don’t see any of the other Easter egg hunts producing videos with U2 soundtracks, do you?

  • Sunday, April 4, 10:15am
  • Meet at St. Paul’s Church (815 E. Grace Street)
  • Free!

4. Easter on Parade

Music, crafts, food, balloons, people and pets (!!!) in wacky Easter bonnets. Oh, Richmond-At-Easter, you so crazy.

  • Sunday, April 4, 1pm to 5pm
  • Monument Avenue between Allen and Davis
  • Free!

5. Live at Ipanema: Long Arms

Live at Ipanema turns one this weekend! Come celebrate as this fabulous events achieves this fabulous milestone with a performance by Long Arms (which happens to include none other than Prabir Mehta. Yes, that Prabir.) It’s sure to be a good time.

  • Sunday, April 4, 10pm
  • Ipanema (917 W. Grace Street)
  • Free!

If none of these look particularly compelling (although I can’t imagine why), perhaps I can interest you in our Events Calendar for more ideas?

And as usual, if you’d like to give special shout-outs to happenings this weekend, leave them in the comments!

(Don’t forget: If you’ve got an event in the works that you’d like to see featured, send it our way.)
