Guys, Spring comes this weekend. Let’s get out and about and CELEBRATE! Here are five fantastic ways to do just that…
1. INTERNEAT-O!: A night of live local improv and sketch comedy awesomeness
Ok, I’m going to be honest. I mostly picked this one because it sounds like I came up with the name. Join the Richmond Comedy Coalition (a name that cracks me up because it sounds so official and scary) for a truly inventive approach to improv. You see, typically suggestions from the audience fuel the performance. But! This time around, they’ll come from streaming Internet videos, some unfortunate soul’s Facebook page, among other Interwebby things. Hence the awesomely awesome name of the event.
- Thursday, March 18, 8pm (doors open at 7:15pm)
- Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall Street)
- $5
2. The 17th Annual James River Film Festival
Spend the weekend soaking up some independent flicks, chatting with other film connoisseurs, AND hearing from the filmmakers themselves. Film-lovers, let the collective geek-out begin! See website for the complete list of features and show times.
- Friday, March 19 through Thursday, March 25
- Planet Zero Art Center (0 East 4th Street)
- Some features are free, some cost $5, so be sure to check the website. Tickets are available 30 minutes before each event.
3. Bustin’ Out for Breast Cancer
Enjoy an evening of music, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction for bras crafted into works of art. Yeah, that’s right. Proceeds benefit the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation and other cancer-awareness nonprofits.
- Friday, March 19, 6pm to 9pm
- Crossroads Arts Center (2016 Staples Mill Road)
- Cash bar
4. 25th Annual Church Hill Irish Festival
Food, drinks, dancing, fun, aaaaaaaaand BAGPIPERS. Plus Weather Dan says its going to be amazing out this weekend. I’m so excited I can’t stand it.
- Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21, 10am to 6pm
- 25th and Broad Streets
- $2 suggest donation
5. Ben Folds and a Piano
Yes, yes I know I featured an event at The National last week, but I fear I will be strung up and stoned if I don’t mention this one. Even though I won’t be there, I hope for the audience’s sake that he plays this one…
- Sunday, March 21, 8pm (Zach Williams opening)
- The National (708 E. Broad Street)
- $30 (Purchase online here)
If none of these look particularly compelling (although I can’t imagine why), perhaps I can interest you in our Events Calendar for more ideas?
And as usual, if you’d like to give special shout-outs to happenings this weekend, leave them in the comments!
(Don’t forget: If you’ve got an event in the works that you’d like to see featured, send it our way.)
