It’s simultaneously time for this week’s 5 Things and time for me to stop IMing two different people so spiritedly about how Ken Burns is all washed up. Convenience!

1. Richmond Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing

Celebrate Richmond Shakespeare’s 25th Anniversary and CenterStage’s 0th and check out Much Ado About Nothing, arguably Shakespeare’s most enjoyable comedy, at the Gottwald Playhouse. $38, starting Thursday, October 1 at 8pm and running until the end of the month, Gottwald Playhouse at Richmond CenterStage, 6th and Grace.

2. RVAJazz Party with No BS! Brass Band

The (new!) RVAJazz launches on (jazzy!) RVANews, and the best way to celebrate this monumental event is with millions and millions of brass instruments at Bogart’s. Seriously, if you haven’t experienced No BS!, now is your chance. Even if you don’t know anything about jazz, you might know a thing or two about how to spend a Friday night, and these guys are a boisterous, inventive spectacle. DON’T LET US TOOT OUR OWN HORN, HERE, but this will be fun. $5, Friday, October 2 at 8pm, Bogart’s, 1903 W. Cary St.

3. 2nd Street Festival

Head to Jackson Ward on Saturday, because the best way to get rid of your Bogart’s hangover is to allow yourself to be bombarded with live R&B and gospel music, fashion shows, other live performances, and food, glorious food, at the annual 2nd Street Festival, which celebrates Jackson Ward’s history as a hotbed of African American culture. Free!, Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4, 2nd St. in Jackson Ward.

4. Movies & Mimosas: Rebel Without a Cause

Winona Ryder didn’t popularize teen angst — no, no, it was James Dean and Natalie Wood, turns out. Rebel Without a Cause was one of those films that gave teenagers a voice. Too bad later we took it away and replaced it with Sorority Row, huh? $4.50 for Criterion Club, $5.50 for everybody else, Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 at 11am, Movieland, 1301 North Boulevard at West Leigh St.

5. A Taste of Carytown

For the sixth year running, you can turn your nose up at imported food and wine and indulge with reckless abandon in the impressive products of local vineyards and chefs at A Taste of Carytown, Carytown’s annual food and wine festival. Get outta here with your snooty French vintages! We’ve got our own grapes, thank you very much! (Alternately, A Taste of Carytown would be a pretty rad name for the Richmond Zombie Walk.) $15/advance, $20/gate, Sunday, October 4 at 12pm, Carytown.
