5 Things

This weekend has it all with 5ks, craft beer, and cheese. And have you ever seen a movie…that WASN’T a movie…until you saw it?

1. The Made Up Movie

I hope you’ve seen Snowpiercer, a post-apocalyptic flick starring Chris Evans about a perpetually moving train powered by the persecution of society’s lower classes.1

But if a violent, grotesque, yet funny film starring Chris Evans doesn’t suit your fancy (why wouldn’t it?), then the Richmond Comedy Coalition has you covered. They’re putting on a film like no other you’ve seen before…because you haven’t. The funny guys and gals will improv an entire movie Friday night in a cinematic experience critics say: “You’ve got to see it…to watch it.”

  • Friday, July 25th • 8:00 – 9:30 PM
  • Coalition Theater • 8 W. Broad Street
  • $10

2. The Graffiti Run 5k

Don’t wear white before Labor Day? Whatever. Rules were made to be broken.

Wear your brightest whites (shirts, socks, shorts, tuxedos) and get them color cannoned during this fun 5k. Whether you’re a kid, or an adult that wants to feel like a kid again, it’s a fun way to spend a morning.

  • Saturday, July 26th • Waves start between 9:00 – 10:00 AM
  • Colonial Downs • 10515 Colonial Downs Parkway • New Kent
  • $20 – $55

3. Blue Bee Cider turns one

Richmond’s only urban cidery turns one–huzzah! To celebrate, Blue Bee is releasing its new mulberry-infused cider, Fanfare. Take part in the fanfare of the new release and birthday with a days worth of live music and tours. Camden’s Dogtown Market will be serving meats, Shyndigz dishing out cake, and Bev’s will bring it all home with their homemade ice-cream.

Love Blue Bee Cider? Then come party! Never had one of their ciders? This weekend is the perfect chance to get on board the cider train.

  • Saturday, July 26th • 12:00 – 7:00 PM
  • Blue Bee Cider • 212 W. 6th Street
  • FREE

4. Richmond Splash & Dash

This one-of-a-kind 5k trail run through woods, creeks, and even includes a flat water tube across the James, all in the name of fun and to support the James River Association.

Although registration is closed, you can cheer on family and friends (or just strangers…which might be kind of weird) and hit up the after party, which will include Hardywood beer and grub from local food trucks.

  • Saturday, July 26th • 2:30 PM
  • Historic Tredegar • 500 Tredegar Street
  • $40 registration fee (after party is FREE to attend)

5. Richmond Kickers Craft Beer Night

Keep that passion you got from watching the World Cup going. This Saturday, the Kickers will have over 20 craft beers and ciders on tap from breweries like Wild Wolf, SweetWater, Shiner, Boulevard, Foothills, Lonerider, Lost Rhino, Smartmouth, and more. For $12, you get admission AND a beer.2 As Harry Truman once said: “Soccer and beer are the hallmarks of a great nation.”3

After you drink some courage, enlist with the rabble-rousing Red Army supporters in Section O to clap and chant our boys to a win over the Harrisburg City Islanders.

Stand up for Richmond. The Red Army wants YOU!

  • Saturday, July 26th • 5:00 PM gates; 7:00 PM kickoff
  • City Stadium • 3201 Maplewood Avenue
  • $12 (kids are $7)

Bonus Thing

Head to Hardywood this Sunday from 12:00 – 3:00 PM for their Urbanite Market. This week is Cheese Week and will feature beer and cheese pairings, the Whole Foods Market Truck serving Mac & Cheese and other cheese plates, and more. Free admission.
