1. Richmond Virginia Reptile Expo

Ohhhh yeah. I’ve got your attention now, don’t I? I was mesmerized by the adorable photos of snakes on this site (I’m currently being digested by one who hypnotized both me and my laptop–it’s not as unpleasant as you’d think!), and also the backstory of the man behind the Maryland Reptile Farm who brings us this delightful (or disgusting, depending on your personal phobias) expo. Also, boa constrictors and pythons available for fair prices. All are welcome, except people who live in my neighborhood with a lackadaisical attitude towards leaving their door open.

2. The Debut of Simerson & Co.

An emerging dance troupe with a dream, a plan, and about a million muscles between them all, Simerson & Co. will have its official debut at the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. But YOU, you lucky thing, can see them before the debut! Which is kind of like seeing the actual debut? Check out this world premiere of both music (scored by Brian Simerson himself) and dance, and also featuring the tunes of just some no-big-deal dudes, J.S. Bach and Phillip Glass. Personally vouched for by Richmond dancers you can trust, this company is one to watch, especially since your support will help them on their way.

3. Summer Moon Music Festival

Where charity, music, and beer combine in the second most magnificent triple cross IN THE LAND! Center of the Universe brewery presents the Summer Moon Festival, where bands compete for the charity of their choice! The musical talent flows like so much beer, and hopefully your wallets will flow too, in the Billfold Canal, a water chute that will line the perimeter, providing a handy and elegant way to fork over your money. I imagine that’s probably not true, but it came to me so easily that you really have to wonder whether I read it in some of their promotional literature or not. Who can say?

4. Capital Ale House National Beer Expo

Finally! An event that features frigging BEER. Like I keep SUGGESTING. Capital Ale House hosts the first ever summer event that showcases the little-known amber-colored bubbly liquid that will make all your troubles go away and all your burps melodious. I jest, Capital Ale House, and you don’t deserve it. Because THIS expo is nothing short of magnificent. Billions of events, trillions of tastings, and zillions of craft beers, this is a serious festival for people who are serious about beer.

5. Richard III

The Richmond Shakespeare Festival bravely soldiers on, despite their beautiful setting and pleasant weather. Despite the talented actors that grace the quaint stage, the innovative directing that sets the vision, and the brilliant, legendary script by probably the best writer to ever have lived. Do these poor souls a favor and drag yourself to Agecroft Hall, the finest place in town, for Richard III the way it should be done.
