The city of Richmond is now accepting bids on the GRTC bus barn facility located at Cary and Robinson. All the details on how to apply are here and you’ll have to get your bid in by July 8th.

The Site was used as a maintenance facility for electric trolleys and then buses from 1903 to 2010 when GRTC moved its operations to a new facility. The Site currently has nine buildings (Administration Bldg., Repair Shops 1 & 2, Facility Maintenance Bldg., Steam Cleaning Shop, two Bus barns, paint and Body Shop Bldg., and the Hazardous Materials Shed. Surface areas outside of the buildings primarily consist of bituminous asphalt-paved
roads, driveways and parking lots with concrete sidewalks, including very limited landscaped or grass-covered areas.

Currently the Site is zoned B-6, Mixed use with the nine buildings containing a total of 121,000 square feet. The entire site is either covered by pavement or occupied by structure. The older buildings are typically constructed of a skeleton steel frame with three layers of brick in-fill between the structural frames. Roof structures are open large span gable steel trusses covered with wood decking and roofed with slate. The newer 1920 era buildings are of cast-in-place concrete columns and beams with concrete roof decks covered with tar and gravel. Wall spaces are filled in with brick.

The last time the site saw any significant use was in 2013 for the RVA Street Art Festival.
