During the past 12 days the following shops have announced they are closing:

  • Jet Set
  • Etc.
  • Elephant’s Toe (this was expected, owners said as much a few months ago)
  • All Fired Up (owner also seeking someone to buy the business)
  • Soak!

On the plus: Penzy’s is opening; and there’s a new restaurant going into the former Happy Interactions, due to open mid-May.

Carytown needs a dynamic public relations advocate who can sell the place as a whole, and a destination, and to compete, shops should stay open longer. Carytown itself perhaps should engage some kind of safety foot or bike patrol to quell fears–justified, given some past incidents–that keeping the doors open past dark invites trouble.

There needs to be formal, permanent signage to mark the district at either end, and signage informing visitors that, yes, there are two parking decks.
