West End Children’s Museum branch moving to Short Pump Town Center

CMoR’s move means new exhibits and more kid-friendly options for families visiting the mall.

The Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Short Pump branch is on the move. CMoR’s West End location, which currently occupies a 15,000-square-foot space at West Broad Village, will downsize to a 8,500-square-foot spot on the first floor of Short Pump Town Center, beneath the food court.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch reports CMoR’s West End location–its first satellite operation which opened in 2009–has attracted over half a million visitors since its opening.

The current location will close in May; the new one inside the mall is expected to open this July.

Mall management reportedly approached museum officials about the possibility of the move, calling CMoR a valued tradition in the Richmond area.

The addition of the museum follows major renovations at the mall which took place in 2014 and included the addition of many new retailers.
