Hey, RVA! Do you have a story set in Virginia that you want to tell? Maybe you want to talk about your aspirations, your family history, your neighborhood. Or, maybe you want to share a story that will otherwise go untold. Virginia Voices wants to hear from you!
Virginia Voices is crowd-sourced documentary that will be a collection of stories about you, me, and Virginia. The 25-minute documentary will premiere at the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) in the fall of 2014. The VHS is currently working with Jeff Boedeker and Boston Productions, Inc. (BPI) to create the documentary and give audiences an overview of the commonwealth and our stories.
The Virginia Voices team will be in the Jackson Ward neighborhood this Thursday. If you would like to chat with the team about your story on Thursday, hobby, occupation, etc., please contact Elise with BPI at eridley@virginiavoices.organd include your contact info and a brief blurb about your story.
In a recent Richmond Times-Dispatch article, Boedeker stated:
“We’re giving people a platform to share their lives, to share what they hold valuable to them: their hopes, their dreams, failures, everything…I always use this metaphor: It’s like a pointillist painting. Each individual story doesn’t live by itself as the story of Virginia or Virginians, but collectively, we will have the most accurate, beautiful portrait of the state ever represented on film.”
If you do not live in Jackson Ward or if you are unavailable on Thursday, you can still share your story by submitting your video online at www.virginiavoices.org. Do you have a great story, but need a camera? Don’t worry. Virginia Voices has camera packs that include a G-20 Canon camera, tripod, and microphone, available that will be shipped to you along with directions to help you use the camera. Visit the Virginia Voices YouTube channel to check out the collection of stories that have already been submitted to the project.
