VHS presents ‘A Native Son Comes Home: The Life and Legacy of Arthur Ashe’

Join us at the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) for a Banner Lecture, A Native Son Comes Home: The Life and Legacy of Arthur Ashe, by Eric Allen Hall on Thursday, July 23 at noon.
Off the tennis court, and in the arena of international politics, Arthur Ashe positioned himself at the center of the black freedom movement. Eric Allen Hall explains how this iconic tennis player overcame racial and class barriers to reach the top of the tennis world in the 1960s and 1970s. He follows Ashe’s evolution as an activist who had to contend with the shift from civil rights to Black Power.
Tickets are $6/adults, $5/seniors and $4/students and children. Admission is free for VHS members and Richmond Times-Dispatch readers with a Press Pass Coupon. The Banner Lecture Series is sponsored by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Tickets are available for sale the day of the lecture. Mr. Hall will sign copies of his book after the lecture.
