Veterans Day Ceremony at Virginia War Memorial

To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…

From the Department of Veterans Affairs:

In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”

Locally there will be various events to honor those who served, the largest will be at the Virginia War Memorial:

WHAT:

  • Ceremony to honor all Virginians and Americans who have served in U.S. military.
  • Ceremony includes presentation of memorial wreathes.
  • Co-hosted by American Legion, 11th District, Dept. of Virginia
  • Public invited to attend. Free admission.
  • Parking will be limited. Public should arrive one hour before ceremony.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 11, 2015, Ceremony at 10 AM at the Paul and Phyllis Galanti Education Center open from 8 A.M.-4 P.M.

WHERE: E. Bruce Heilman Amphitheater and Shrine of Memory Virginia War Memorial, 621 South Belvidere Street, Richmond, VA 23220
