The Carillon Advisory Committee and Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will hold a Veterans’ Day Commemorative Program at the Carillon in Byrd Park on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m.

The commemoration will begin with a prelude concert on the Carillon bells by Ryan Hebert, followed by the posting of the colors by the Franklin Military Academy Color Guard. The program will recognize the nation’s and city’s veterans through music and a salute by the American Legion Memorial Rifles. Lt. Col. Rodney Palmer, commander of the 266th Quartermaster Battalion of the 23rd Brigade at Fort Lee, will be the keynote speaker.

The City’s Virginia War Memorial Carillon was erected in the 1930’s to honor WWI veterans. It is located at the south end of the Boulevard, adjacent to Dogwood Dell in Richmond’s Byrd Park.

The Carillon Advisory Committee is a group of citizens appointed by Richmond City Council to preserve the Carillon and its tower for the purpose of honoring Virginia’s veterans. Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities is responsible for the Carillon as well as for the city’s parks, statues and monuments, community centers, and recreation programs.
