Last night the Division I VCU Rams looked taller, faster and better than the Virginia Union Panthers, their Division II opponent: VCU 86, Union 57.

Before a Siegel Center crowd of 5,703 VCU senior guard Jamal Shuler led all scorers with 22 points. Rams freshman Larry Sanders blocked five shots in 19 minutes of play and fellow freshman Lance Kearse scored 11 points in just 10 minutes on the floor.

This game was an “exhibition” that will not count on either team’s regular season record. VCU opens its season on Fri., Nov. 9, at home against Maryland-Eastern Shore.
