VCU to be spotlighted by TLC this weekend
Two conjoined twins who made national headlines last year after a nearly 24-hour surgical procedure performed at VCU separated them will be the focus of a new documentary that will air this weekend on TLC
This Sunday, TLC will air a one-hour documentary on former conjoined twins Maria and Teresa Tapia. The two were flown from the Dominican Republic to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU last year where doctors successfully separated the girls in a nearly 24-hour procedure.
Titled “Conjoined Twins: Separation Anxiety”, the program will air Sunday, January 22nd at 10pm EST on TLC. It will repeat on January 23rd at midnight.
Here is our article about Maria and Teresa and the VCU doctors who performed the marathon procedure. Approximately six separation surgeries are performed in the US each year.
